This issue marks number 1,232 for me as publisher of The Retrospect and each edition still provides surprises. That’s the nature of originally produced and authentic journalism.

In my time at the helm, tens of thousands of stories and pictures, reliably published every Friday, have reflected The Retrospect’s communities; towns served for the past 121 years.

However, this local chronicle would not be possible without people like you as subscribers. Your investment enables so much more than putting ink on paper or pixels on screens.

Real journalism takes a community that invests in and cares deeply about the work we do. When we ask people to sign up for a subscription, we encourage them to join The Retrospect family. Like any family we may not always agree on the issues but we support each other.

Your investment pays off with real journalism

To bring The Retrospect family the latest news, our award-winning staff attends events, covers meetings, files public records requests, digs through local archives and talks with the community week in and week out. Only then do we compose the stories, vet the information and scrutinize the work before we publish. A typical story gets reviewed by four people because once we go to print, any errors or omissions live forever.

If you believe this kind of journalism improves our area and provides a valuable service to community, please join The Retrospect family.

A two-year subscription costs only $75 - only 72 cents a week.

In that 104-week span, you can expect hundreds of items covering your town through municipal and school board coverage, the sports pages, police reports, feature stories, the Buzz business articles and our history page with the beloved Memory Lane and Yesteryear columns.

If you already subscribe, we thank you and ask you to encourage others to sign up. Also, as a reminder, subscriptions make a great gift.

I often feel like each edition is a weekly miracle. As much as we may plan ahead - for example, my wife Sue creates our monthly meeting coverage schedule for municipal, school, planning and other boards - things always change. For June, we already have over two dozen assignments plotted. And that’s just one piece of the publication puzzle, so much happens outside of assigned meetings.

Even though next week will be number 1,233 with me at the helm, I still don’t know what to expect in terms of news. Sign up today to find out what happens next.
