Sadly, Martha (Carter) Shaw, a 1978 graduate of Collingswood High School, passed away late last December, but Joe, her husband of 37 years, believes he can imagine the subject of her Thanksgiving essay all those many years ago that earned her an experience in the Gimbels Thanksgiving Day Parade in 1969.

So what did Gene London (the host of Philadelphia children’s television show, Cartoon Corners), actor James Brolin (who played Dr. Steven Kiley on Marcus Welby, M.D.) and nine-year-old Martha Carter, of Collingswood, have in common in 1969?
They each rode on floats in the 1969 Gimbels Thanksgiving Day Parade in Philadelphia.
