At its March 20 meeting, the Audubon Board of Education approved the calendar for the 2024-2025 school year. The approval brings an end to the February board meeting’s vibrant discussion of the calendar, and the difficulties of implementing diversity, equity and inclusion ideals in a school calendar.
A charge against a juvenile was upgraded to manslaughter in reference to an assault that fatally injured a man in Mount Ephraim last month, reported Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay and Mount Ephraim Police Chief Brian Conte earlier this week.
All persons charged with criminal offenses are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. The police reports are public records, published pursuant to New Jersey statutes with the cooperation of local police departments.
Water Heist
Celebrate the long-awaited arrival of spring with the SoHa Arts Spring Fest which take place at Haddon Township’s SoHa Arts Building, located at 1001 White Horse Pike, on Saturday, April 6 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Haddon Township welcomes back the annual Brews & Cruise Car Show on select Thursdays this spring and summer. The show will take place along West Park Boulevard and Crystal Lake Avenue from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursdays, April 11, May 9, and June 13, and is free and open to the public.
At Monday’s meeting, the Collingswood Commissioners voted to authorize a $399,700 contract with borough engineering firm Remington & Vernick for construction phase services of the Comly Ave. water treatment plant upgrades. Borough administrator Cassandra Duffey said in an email that this specific phase is needed to receive New Jersey Infrastructure Bank funding.
If approved in a September vote, a $44.5 million referendum would transform the Collingswood School District in the next three years. Most notably, James A. Garfield Elementary and Thomas Sharp Elementary would be decommissioned as school buildings, with Garfield being sold and Sharp converted into a recreation center.
Two items with the potential to shove parking out of the minds of Haddonfield residents were lurking at the back of Monday’s commission meeting agenda, but were tabled instead as the commission chose to go into a closed session to finalize details.
