Audubon enjoyed a memorable girls’ soccer season and with just four seniors departing, the future continues to look bright. The Green Wave won the South Jersey Group 1 championship, beating Schalick 2-1 in the final. This came a year after falling to Palmyra, 4-1 in the South Jersey Group 1 championship.
Sometimes excellence can be taken for granted. While winning a state title for some programs is almost a once-ina- lifetime achievement, for the cross country teams at Haddonfield, it’s a common occurrence. That doesn’t mean it is not special each time, it’s just that for both programs it has become a familiar outcome.
Dawgs Championship Week
The Audubon Green Wave is one of those South Jersey girls soccer teams that is difficult to ignore. Besides having an impressive 19-1-2 record, Audubon has surrendered a total of eight goals in 22 games. This includes Monday’s South Jersey Group 1 championship game - a 2-1 victory over No. 3 Schalick.
The Haddon Township Hawks are South Jersey Group 1 boys cross country champions once again. It’s the 22nd overall and second in a row for the program. The latest championship moment took place Saturday at DREAM Park in Logan Township. The Hawks finished with a team score of 48, topping Gloucester City (92 points) and Schalick (105 points).
Audubon Girls Soccer Still Alive
Haddon Heights football coach Chris Lina has been saying since the preseason that senior tight end/linebacker Jayden Trace is among the more underrated players in South Jersey.
The NJSIAA football playoffs begin this week, with the public schools. Non-Public teams will begin competing next week. There are three public schools from The Retrospect area that qualified – Audubon, Haddonfield and Haddon Heights. Paul VI will be in the Non-Public A playoffs, where the seeds won’t be announced until Oct. 29.
The Retrospect coverage area once again dominated the Colonial Conference cross country championships with a clean sweep of the top spots. Pennypacker Park in Haddonfield was the host site for last week’s event.
