Junior high school level students in the Haddon Heights sending area, comprised of Barrington, Haddon Heights, Lawnside and Merchantville, competed in girls and boys basketball for the fifth annual Garnet Cup on the weekend of February 3 and 4. On Saturday were the semifinal games and on Sunday were the championship and consolation games.

AretheHaddonfieldBulldogs the best boys basketball team in Camden County this season? Well, the squad is certainly one of the best based on their strong showing in the Camden County boys basketball tournament that got underway last week.
Haddonfield’s boys basketball team won 25 games last season and the Bulldogs are on a similar pace this year. Entering the week, Haddonfield was 21-1 and has already clinched at least a tie for the highly competitive Colonial Conference Liberty Division title.
Bulldogs Punch Ticket to Swimming Semifinals
When the NJSIAA announced the team sectional swimming brackets last week, both Haddonfield Memorial squads received the No. 1 seed that came with a free pass through the first two rounds. This means the Bulldogs have been playing the waiting game, waiting to see who they’ll be facing in the round of four.
The Audubon High School girls indoor track team accomplished a program first last week by winning the South Jersey Group 1 championship. It was their first outright team sectional championship for the winter season. When the Green Wave won in 2020, they were co-winners with the Collingswood Panthers.
Dechlin Moody and the Collingswood Panthers wrestling team might be preparing for next week’s sectional tournament, but it’s hard to ignore the career milestone the head coach achieved during the regular season. Moody joined a rare club as the fourth Colonial Conference head coach to record 300 wins.
When the National Anthem was played, it really hit home for Christopher Banos. A seventh grader at Haddonfield Middle School, Banos was representing the United States in a series of international futsal exhibitions over the Christmas holidays in France.
Wrestling Team Brackets Announced
Sometimes a program has to reset, due to key losses to graduation, and that is the situation for the Haddon Township boys’ basketball team. The Hawks have one of the youngest teams in South Jersey, with no seniors on the roster.
Now that last week’s snow days are in the rear-view mirror, girls basketball teams from The Retrospect coverage area returned to action. This included a Tuesday showdown between a couple of the Colonial Conference’s top teams as Haddonfield Memorial (13-2) of the Liberty Division hosted Audubon (8-5) from the Patriot Division.
